Sunset on Pub Street
Posted in Travel Blog on February 13th, 2009 by Scott G TrenordenToday the heat and humidity have reached a level just too much to bear. Travellers have retreated to air conditioned hotel rooms and cafes; hell, even the tuk-tuk drivers have dispersed to the shade of nearby trees.
Today I was going to do a tour of the lake area but it has been cancelled. Due to the heat I wonder? Tomorrow I am booked in for the “Day in the Life” tour of the local villages etc.
But for today I have diverted my activities to seek out the coolness of the fan in the guest house lobby. I shall now battle the Interwebs in an attempt to upload some photos.
I won’t write much of a story to accompany this group of photos. I wrote up a blog post last night but decided it was too subjective to post (a reflection on life here for the locals) in case you start to think I am not liking my time here! It’s the complete opposite in fact.
The day before yesterday I wandered down ‘Pub Street’ at sundown, capturing people seeking out dinner, locals plying their trade and tuk-tuk drivers lazing in the back of their vehicles.
There is a beautiful light here when dusk approaches, and a very laid back and happy attitude about the place.

Life Support…
Dozens of kegs of beer are delivered to Pub Street every night in preparation for the mass drinking sessions carried out by travellers.
The sun in its glory, lighting up a pre-dusk Pub Street.
The ice cart. A couple of lads deliver ice blocks to the roadside restaurants each evening, cutting the blocks up with a saw and machete.
The sun slowly disappears behind a palm as night approaches on Pub Street.
The crowds begin to flock…

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Thanks again for the well-wishes!
I will write again soon. May even post last night’s diatribe!
Scott.
